None of this is complicated. A few simple habits are all it takes.

Everyday Habits

Last On, First Off: Put your jewellery on after makeup, perfume, lotion and hairspray, and take it off first when you get home. Cosmetics and oils are the main thing that dulls a diamond’s sparkle.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Remove rings before cleaning with bleach or strong detergents, which can damage gold over time.
Take it Off for Heavy Activity: Diamonds are hard but not unbreakable — a sharp knock at the right angle can chip a stone. Remove pieces for gym, gardening, or rough work.

Cleaning at Home

To bring back the sparkle, you don’t need anything special:

Soak the piece for 20–30 minutes in warm (not hot) water with a few drops of mild dish soap.
Gently brush behind and around the stone with a soft toothbrush — this is where oil and grime collect and where most of the dullness comes from.
Rinse in clean water (close the drain first), and pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Do this every couple of weeks and your diamond will keep its fire. Avoid abrasive cleaners, toothpaste, or anything gritty — they can scratch the gold.

Storing Your Jewellery

Store pieces separately so they don’t scratch one another — diamonds can scratch gold and other diamonds.
